Our team at Chelsea Court Place were delighted to host a free four course Christmas lunch party for 110 elderly residents of Kensington & Chelsea.
Held at Refettorio Felix at St. Cuthbert’s in Earls Court, the diners enjoyed carrot and lentil soup, roast turkey with all the festive trimmings, roast butternut squash risotto and a dessert of Christmas pudding, mince pies, tea, coffee, wine and prosecco. All guests received Christmas presents donated by Harrods and enjoyed live entertainment by The Twin Swing and the Swing Time Sisters who performed an array of festive songs and dances that had everyone swinging and smiling.
Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Councillor Marie-Therese Rossi was in attendance, welcoming and dining with the guests. Councillor Rossi comments, “It was heartwarming to see guests enjoying Christmas lunch and celebrating friendship together at this special time of year. Unfortunately, Christmas can be a very lonely time for many people, but seeing the community come together to help care for the elderly is truly remarkable. This is what community is all about.”
Chelsea Court Place worked with Age UK Kensington & Chelsea to provide transport for those in wheelchairs or have problems with mobility, many of whom become isolated because of this. Local resident Mrs Joyce commented, “I don’t get out of my house very often as I am in a wheelchair and access can be very difficult. The day was so special. The food was delicious and the entertainment was fantastic too.”
Another commented, “It was great to see so many people having such a good time together, everybody was so friendly and went to great lengths to give everyone a special and memorable experience.”
At Chelsea Court Place, our team are committed to supporting the local elderly community through events, education and charitable initiatives. Managing Director James Cook, who instigated the event for the second year running, comments “Working with local charities and businesses and being active in the local community to support the elderly and vulnerable is of the utmost importance to Chelsea Court Place. This Christmas event shows what a positive impact we can have on the lives of the elderly and less fortunate. We highly value the work that Age UK and Refettorio Felix does for the local community and were delighted to host such a successful event with them.”
Motivated by the success of the Christmas lunch event and the effect it has had on the guests; we are committed to running more charitable events for local elderly residents throughout the year. James comments, “Christmas is a time of giving and celebrating which should last all year. With loneliness becoming an epidemic within the elderly, we’d very much like to work with the community to host more events throughout 2019 and make a difference to the lives of the local residents.”
We were also delighted to engage some of our suppliers in the event, who offered discounts off the produce. The turkeys were supplied by our butcher HG Walters and the wine, prosecco and sherry were supplied by our wine supplier Jascots. All were very much appreciated and enjoyed by the guests.
Thank you to all of our staff, suppliers, local businesses, family and friends for making this event such a success. We very much look forward to working with you all again in 2019!
